US High School Exchange Student Program guide(1/3)
History of exchange students
Cultural exchange dates back to the 1940’s when World War 2 sparked a desire for travel and exchange in order to promote diplomacy and intercultural understanding.
Today cultural exchange is a big part of the American lifestyle and is seen as an essential part of a well-rounded education.
What is an exchange student?
An exchange student is a high school student who travels abroad to live in a new country as part of a scholarly exchange program. While they're in this program, exchange students typically stay with a local host family and attend classes at a local school, all while immersing themselves in a new culture, potentially learning a new language, and experiencing the world from a different viewpoint.
