Conditions for applying for American exchange students:

 

• Age limit: Between the age of 15-18.5
• Enrolled in High School in home country and have not completed more than 11 years of school (excluding Kindergarten)
• GPA: Average score of 70 points or more in school
• ELTiS: Score of 212 points or more
• Have not participated in the J-1 US High School Exchange Program before

How long does the American Exchange Student Program allow the student to study in a public American high school and how many times can one participate

According to the US Government Decree, all international exchange students who enter public high schools are not allowed to apply for international students. Each applicant can only apply once (can only attend one academic year)

Does the American school issue a certificate of study after the exchange program?

After the student completes the US exchange student program the school will issue an official academic transcript and a series of documents to prove the students learning status at the school.

Can Exchange Students Work After School, on the Weekends, or During Vacation?

When you are an exchange student you can’t have a regular job, either full time or part time.

Will my grades transfer back home?

It depends on the country you are coming from and if they require a convalidation. Some countries requires convalidation in order for you to receive credit. Convalidation Process by State: If your home country requires convalidation, you will need to obtain an apostle from the Secretary of State of the state in which you are placed. The process varies from state to state and need to be applied as required. It is a good idea to go to the website of the Secretary of State for your particular state, and verify the process to obtain an apostle.
